DDD 014 – The upside of constraint.

Few things are more infectious than passion.  From what I’ve read, Rothko never stopped yelling, and Woody Allen has zero tolerance with regards to actor improvisation of his scripts.  The Clash might still be ‘the only band that matters’ – just listen to White Man in Hammersmith Palais.  Joe Strummer summed up his band’s success with “we’re not particularly talented, we just try hard”

Being consumed with passion at one’s 9 to 5 isn’t so easy.  That’s why they call it work.  And that’s why they call it money.  Frankly, If someone was completely consumed every hour of every day with a single thing, they may represent a sliver of a sliver of the populous, and probably be incarcerated too.

Enter the little thing.  It’s very possible to get whipped up about something super specific and narrow.

Example #1

Example #2

Needless to say, there are more than 2 examples.  I’ve found a great amount of satisfaction using technology to seek and further my passions, as opposed to removing constraints thereby allowing distraction to take over.
